It’s exactly the kind of evening that makes you look at a familiar city block differently on your drive home. Every old town has its secrets, but Jackson happens to have a few that are definitely better told after dark.

 

WingFest 2026: Come Hungry

When late October hits, an entirely different kind of fall tradition takes over the calendar, one involving significantly fewer ghosts and considerably more wet wipes. WingFest returns to Hub City Brewing, gathering local food lovers together to answer one monumental question: Who makes the absolute best wings in Jackson?

 Hosted by the Scarlet Rope Project, this annual competition brings culinary teams together to battle it out for ultimate bragging rights while attendees get to taste their way through the field. It’s loud, incredibly delicious, and competitive in the best way possible. It is a fantastic reminder that some of our best local memories are made when gathered around a table with a plate piled high.

 

Halloween at the Market

Then comes that unmistakable stretch of the month when the autumn festivities reach their peak. The costumes come out, candy bowls are filled, and the West Tennessee Farmers Market gets in on the celebration with Halloween at the Market.

This neighborhood gathering highlights how simple and joyful community events can be. It centers around kids showing off their costumes, collecting treats in plastic pumpkins, and parents enjoying an easygoing outing. ShakesFest: A Little Shakespeare for Halloween

Just when you think you know exactly what autumn in the Hub City looks like, along comes something entirely unexpected. On October 31, downtown Jackson will transform into ShakesFest, Jackson's first immersive, Renaissance-inspired arts festival. Centered around a completely free public production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the festival will feature an artisan village, live music, themed Renaissance treats, costume contests, and interactive games.

The event culminates with spectacular free performances of the play at The AMP (with showtimes at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM). It feels like a brilliant addition to our calendar. Fall has always been a season meant for storytelling, whether passed down through generations or discovered brand-new under the theater lights.
